Cargo Handling Operative

The Vacancy
To effectively coordinate and work within the cargo handling team, ensuring workload deadlines are met and work is completed to the highest standard while adhering to safe working practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cargo Handling: Safe and secure loading and unloading of various cargo types, including containers, flat racks, and curtainsiders.
- Equipment Operation: Operate lifting equipment such as forklifts for devanning and reloading containers and trailers.
- Data Recording: Accurately record key milestones during loading or unloading, including taking photos when applicable.
- Health and Safety: Report and adhere to safe working practices.
- Yard Duties: Perform other yard duties as required.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Data Input: Provide accurate information to the admin team for system updating.
- Relationship Building: Foster strong relationships with colleagues and suppliers.
- Team Support: Assist colleagues within the transport team as needed.
- Problem Solving: Identify and resolve transport-related issues efficiently.
- Cost Control: Monitor transport costs and seek opportunities for cost reduction.
- Performance Management: Track KPIs and implement process improvements.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to transport regulations and industry standards.
- Customer Satisfaction: Proactively address customer needs and exceed expectations.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to process improvements within the transport department.
Essential Criteria:
- Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in rigging, cargo lashing, port-based operations, or handling out-gauge cargo.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Problem Solving: Proven ability to problem-solve and find solutions under pressure.
- Organisational Skills: Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail.
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
